Autumnal Dalmeny Park Hotel Wedding Glasgow with Smoke Bombs!

Kate & Jen’s Roller Derby & Rainbows Autumnal Dalmeny Park Hotel Wedding Glasgow

“Sarah immediately put me at ease and was so lovely and genuinely enthusiastic about her work. We love our photos so much we had all the feels the first time we seen them. The photo shoot we did looked absolutely stunning and I think the photos brought out a side in both of us we didn’t realise we had. We’ve had so many compliments on the photos from people who’ve seen them online. Sarah (and Stevie her assistant) went above and beyond to give us such wonderful photos. They even found the location for our photoshoot and very willingly trailed through leaves and mud to get photos. Thank you so much for that Sarah. The photos are amazing!!”
– Kate & Jen

Roller derby, dinosaur cake toppers (coolest cake toppers EVER!), rainbows,  a VW and a super ace couple. If that doesn’t get you excited for today’s blog then, quite frankly, I don’t know what will!

Meet Kate and Jen, it’s just past their first anniversary so there’s no better time to look back and celebrate their amazing day. They met at Roller Derby and soon became firm friends. Eventually, Jen plucked up the (liquid!) courage to ask Kate out while they were celebrating a friend’s wedding. Fast forward a few years and Kate (also after some of that liquid courage!) proposed to Jen at a ukulele gig. They’d just started to get their wedding plans in place when March 2020 rolled around, COVID became a thing and, well, you know what happened next. Not the best time to plan a wedding as you can imagine! But these two were determined that nothing would stop them from having their day. They may have had to cut their guest list down to 17, their minimoon to Disneyland Paris may have been put on hold but what a day they had! And, as Jen said, after such a hard year what better way to end it than as wife and wife.

Wedding photography at Dalmeny Park Hotel Glasgow

When Dalmeny Park told Jen and Kate they had one Saturday available in 2020 and it was 24th October they were over the moon – not only is Jen’s lucky number ‘24’ but they love autumnal colours and used lots of greens, gold and orange throughout their wedding.

The fabulous Brenda led their Humanist ceremony. Jen had been to school with her daughter so has known Brenda for years. As a wee nod to Scotland, they had a handfasting. Having a celebrant who knew them so well meant that their ceremony was even more personal to them and both Kate and Jen felt so relaxed and comfortable with Brenda.

Speaking of personal touches, I love it when a couple have lots of meaningful elements throughout their day. It adds that extra special ‘something’. Kate made the ceremony arch and the dried floral centrepieces (I think there’s a career in floristry for you Kate if you ever fancy a change of direction!) while Jen’s sister gave her their Dad’s childhood football medal to wrap around her bouquet. Sadly he had passed away at the beginning of the year so having his medal with her meant the world to Jen. Especially as watching football together had always been their thing.

Epic portraits at a top secret location…

My lovely second shooter Stevie joined Kate in the morning. She was getting ready at home, surrounded by Roller Derby skates and memorabilia. We had to include some of it in the photos, it played such a huge role in them getting together after all. I was with Jen at Dalmeny Park with her Mum, Sister and adorable Neice getting ready.

After the ceremony, the newlyweds, plus me and my ace second shooter Stevie, jumped into the VW Camper and went on an adventure! I knew Kate and Jen wanted some photos surrounded by Scottish countryside so I’d had a scout around and found the perfect location. It just so happened that this spot was a bit of an epic trek away –  up a hill, through some trees and along a narrow, muddy path. Kate and Jen were game for anything though and I promised them the walk would be worth it. I think you’ll agree, it really was! We set off some smoke bombs in the woodlands, got some pretty darn amazing photos and then turned the corner to find a loch. Couldn’t have asked for more!

The Scottish weather had been kind to us until we were out in the open by the loch. Typical! The wind picked up, some light rain started but luckily the gals had their rainbow umbrella with them. Which kept Kate and Jen dry and meant they had the Pride flag in their photos, what a win!

Kate, Jen, I loved getting to hang out with you both. It was just the best day. Happy 1st anniversary!
