Sunny Drum Castle Wedding in Aberdeenshire

Rosa & Tillmann’s Outdoor Walled Garden Drum Castle Wedding

“Oh my godddddddd so so good Sarah! We love them. Thank you so much for being awesome, lots of people commented on how chill and helpful you were.”
– Rosa & Tillmann

Ahhh these two are just the cutest! I fell slightly in love with Rosa and Tillmann the minute they enquired with me and, well, just look at them. Two of the nicest, most adorable people ever. And I got to go and hang out with them when they got married. What a joy!

Rosa and Tillmann met at Camphill Community where they’re both support workers. Take a minute to read up on Camphill, it’s an amazing charity that provides people with learning disabilities, special needs and mental health problems with a place to live, work and care for the land and environment. I have to admit it was the first time I’d heard of the work they do and it’s just incredible.

Weddings at Drum Castle

So, the original plan had been to get married at Camphill Community in August 2020. Thanks to COVID that plan had to be scrapped and Rosa and Tillmann moved everything to Drum Castle for a May 2021 wedding. As second choices go, Drum Castle is not a bad one! It’s one of Scotland’s oldest Tower Houses so is absolutely steeped in history with acres of gardens and an ancient oak woodland surrounding it.

Rosa and Tillmann’s ceremony took place in the Walled Garden. It was hot. It was SO HOT. Absolutely boiling weather. Luckily the tall hedges provided a little shade for their guests and I think Rosa and Tillmann were so caught up in each other they had no idea what the weather was doing! Plus Penny, the Dog of Honour and star of the show, was kept in the shade and well watered throughout so she was mega happy. I was a bit of a sweaty mess but luckily no one takes my picture!

Laid back, intimate wedding

This was such a chilled out affair. I was with Rosa, Tillmann, and their 40 guests for around 4 hours. After their Humanist ceremony – and after Rosa’s sisters had made us all sob with their beautiful readings – it was time for Rosa and Tillmann to head back up the aisle as newlyweds. They were so overjoyed their bouncy walk back up the aisle can only be described as a merry ‘just married’ jig!

As their guests enjoyed champagne in the garden, I wandered off with Rosa and Tillmann for some portraits. As Tillmann’s family weren’t able to make it over from Germany they were watching over Zoom, which ran throughout the day. I love that guests could wander over to the camera, have a chat and a drink with people miles away. They stayed online even when we were at Woodend Barn, Buchanan Bistro, for the reception, joining in with toasts and speeches. Whilst it wasn’t the same as them being there in person it was such a good way to make them feel part of it, and for Rosa and Tillmann to see their loved ones. Thank goodness for technology eh!

I’m going to leave you with the photos now, as you scroll through take a moment, more than a moment, to gaze in awe at Rosa’s super cool dress, she looked incredible. Rosa, Tillmann, you’re awesome. Here’s your day…
