Summer Engine Works Glasgow Wedding Full of Games
“The day was amazing from start to finish and Sarah was fantastic throughout. We both love the photos. Brought a wee tear to the eye. Thank you so much.”
– Sarah & Fraser
Ahhh June! Let me take you back to when the sun was shining and the sky was (pretty much always) blue. It feels so long ago, doesn’t it! Just a few more months folks, and then winter will be over. Hang in there!
Sarah and Fraser’s big day took place at the Engine Works in the West End of Glasgow. This multi-use events space makes for an awesome wedding venue. It’s a blank canvas so you can make it completely unique and your own. Fotomaki took the first styled wedding photos of the venue when it opened back in 2018 and we fell in love with it. We’re on their recommended suppliers list, which is always an honour, and love to head back and shoot here any chance we get.
Engine Works Glasgow Wedding
The Engine Works is a wedding photographer’s dream. The old warehouse is flooded with natural light and has been restored over the years combining the original brickwork and iron beams with clean lines and smooth concrete floors. It’s a really cool blend of rustic and modern. The warehouse looks pretty mega when it’s empty but looked absolutely amazing once Sarah and Fraser had worked their magic on it and created their dream wedding. They’d originally fallen in love with the open space and really made the most of it. Hiring in festoon lighting and fairy lights (which made for some pretty incredible portraits) as well as sofas and Chesterfields to create little breakout lounge areas. A family friend did all the decor for them, and I also need to give a shout out to Sarah’s Dad who made their wedding cake! Very delicious it was too! I love it when everyone comes together for a wedding day, giving it that personal touch.
Sarah and Fraser arrived at the Engine Works in an old school VW camper, and drove right into the venue. Yep, you read that right. The big old warehouse doors slid open and that camper just drove right on in, up the cobbled walkway. It was definitely a talking point of the wedding, Sarah and Fraser’s guests loved it! They’d also set up outdoor games in the yard so everyone made the most of the sunshine and spent the reception out there, challenging each other to outrageous competitions! The more shots that were done the more raucous the games. Funny that!
Glasgow University Chapel wedding ceremony
Sarah and Fraser held their ceremony at Glasgow University’s rather grand chapel. It’s awe-inspiring when you walk in. And it’s a pretty big deal to get married there as only university alumni can hold their ceremony in the chapel. The huge stained glass windows and stone columns made for an amazing backdrop to their ceremony photographs.
Holding their ceremony in the chapel also meant that we could wander around the cloisters for their wedding portraits which meant we got some pretty epic photos. I do love a dramatic backdrop and silhouette!
It was tricky to choose my favourites from Sarah and Fraser’s day. Especially because the Engine Works is so ace to photograph in as well. But I think I managed it. Take a look! And let me know if you’re planning your own Engine Works wedding, I always want to hang out with the Engine Works crew!
